Night Ranger’s new album, “High Road” will be out June 10th

“We’re really excited,” Joel Hoekstra said “Jack and Kelly, the original core of the band, got together and did the bulk of the writing and came up with some great songs, and they got myself and Eric Levy involved in about 4 or 5 of the tracks, in terms of the writing.  As far as playing the parts, the guys are so open-minded and cool and we came out with something that sounds like a really nice hybrid of old Night Ranger with a lot of our current influences.”

“It was a fun record to make,” founding member Jack Blades said “It took us about a year because we started recording with a lot of the ideas, recording them and then we went on tour.”

“We started working on it in 2013,” drummer Kelly Keagy said “in between touring gigs.  It’s taken a lot longer than we originally thought it would, but in a lot of ways it’s been a good thing because we’ve been able to take our time on it, come back to it, listen to it, change things, write more songs.  Once we get in there and start writing, we realize we like what we’re doing. We like the direction. We always find those songs where we can be serious, then we can be playful. Creating a party atmosphere can be fun.”

“I was excited to finally get down to the mixes,” guitarist Brad Gillis said “and listen to it and finally say, ‘Okay, let’s get it out there.’  We have a great year ahead to go out on tour, one of our first show’s being in Fond du Lac.  We can’t wait to play some of the new songs.”

“It’s sort of another classic Night Ranger album,” Blades said  “everybody in the room coming up with ideas.  I love High Road because it’s all about freedom. It’s all about just making that move, just going for it. I’m on the high road, I’m going to stay on the high road.  ‘Knock-Knock Never Stop’ is a good, classic Night Ranger tune from the album with a ‘rocking America’ attitude, like a party.  We wanted to have fun on this record. There are some serious things on it, there’s some serious lyrics and everything like that, but there are also some real fun, straight-up, ‘let’s have a good time’ songs, and Knock-Knock Never Stop is one of those songs.”

“I think it’s my favorite Night Ranger song ever,” Hoekstra said  “I really love it. What can I say? It’s so hooky. It’s so catchy. It was a pleasure making this album.  High Road just brings across a whole lot of positivity through Jack and Kelly’s lyrics, and I feel like we got a lot of really great double guitar stuff.”

“It’s pretty amazing that we’re still making records after 31 years,” Keagy said “Now, it’s kind of like, do we have any more to say?”

“Everybody’s always agreed with the 30-plus years of being together,” Gillis said “that it’s all about the songs.  We’ve always liked the approach of having that big chorus and the melodic verses, and then we put the icing on the cake with the guitar solos or the keyboard solo or harmony solos.”

“It’s going to be nice,” Blades said “a lot of work, a lot of fun, but that’s what Night Ranger has always done. Night Ranger is a working band and we will continue to work as long as people come and see us.”
