The Stevens Point Downtown Business Assn. is sponsoring their first Discover Downtown event, scheduled for July 18-19.
This event, which replaces Krazy Days, features great summer clearance and sidewalk sales plus family-friendly activities and displays that showcase the variety of businesses that make up downtown Stevens Point.
Families can take horse-and-buggy rides or trolley rides, and there will be live music on the square and at the transit hub. The Farmers’ Market will showcase some of its very best early summer produce. You can even get a tour of the old Fox Theatre.
According to Margaret O’Connor-Govett of Girls in Pearls Boutique, this new Discover Downtown event will be slightly different than Krazy Days because it will focus completely on the businesses in Stevens Point rather than bringing in vendors from other places.
“We have lined up some great activities with various businesses in the downtown area,” O’Connor-Govett said. “We are still working out the details with a few of the businesses, but there will definitely be something for everyone in the family to see and enjoy. We hope this event will offer people a taste of downtown.”
The Blue Bead Trading Company will host a Geode Cracking activity, which is always very popular with visitors. Gepetto’s will have a fish pond. The Partners in Nurturing Community (PINC) will be teaming up with Stevens Point Transit to host a Ride N Find, which will feature historical facts about our community. And The Yoga Space, Jim Laabs Music Superstore, the Suzuki Institute, and 5 Rings Martial Arts will be hosting various activities.
Remember the famous Ping Pong Ball Drop from Krazy Days? This fan-favorite event will take place throughout the event and on both days (instead of just one day at noon), and hundreds of ping pong balls will be dropped from several rooftops. You never know where and when, so keep your eyes peeled! The ping pong balls have business names and numbers written on them, and when you find a ball, you can take it to that business to receive a prize.
The event is scheduled for 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Friday, and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday. Parking is available by the library and in the new parking lot by Great Lakes. For more information, contact O’Connor-Govett at Girls in Pearls Boutique at 715-345-7819. Hope to see you there!
