Wisconsin Symphonic Winds at UWO, August 24


A fine afternoon of music is set for Aug 24, 201

The Wisconsin Symphonic Winds presents 2014 summer concert on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 3 p.m. 

The group’s conductor and artistic director, Dr. Rob McWilliams, describes his eleven seasons with the wind ensemble a true privilege to work with some of the best wind and percussion players from the Fox Valley and wider region. “WSW gives these fine musicians an opportunity to play wind band literature at the highest level.  It’s all volunteer and the vast majority of the musicians come back to play every summer.” 

The program Sunday, entitled “Director’s Choice”, is the final concert with founding Artistic Director Dr. Rob McWilliams before he relocates to Australia in January 2015.  The program will consist of the following:

Procession of the Nobles – Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov
Droyslden Wakes – David Stanhope
Angels in the Architecture – Frank Ticheli
Shortcut Home – Dana Wilson
Second Suite in F – Gustav Holst
Colonial Song – Grainger
Festival Variations – Claude T. Smith

The 3 p.m. concert is in the Music Hall of the Arts & Communications Building on the campus of UW Oshkosh (corner of Vine and Elmwood Streets, Oshkosh). Tickets are available at the door: $8 Adults. $5 for students and children.  UW Oshkosh students are free with an ID.  The second 2014 summer concert will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the same location.
