You know the old rule: when you are going to have a choir concert, you ought to go massive. Well, maybe you didn’t know that, but the Oshkosh Music Artist Series is fully vested in it for the November 15, 2014 choir concert at Beckets City Center Atrium.
The fifth concert organized by the Oshkosh Music Artist Series is a benefit for high school choir programs at Oshkosh West, North and Lourdes Academy. Due to the large number of performers, the November 15 concert has been moved from the normal Algoma Club location and into the large, open courtyard in the city center.
The line-up for the night is a major undertaking. Choirs from Lourdes Academy, Oshkosh West High School, and Oshkosh North High school will perform. Choirs from UW Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Chamber Choir are also set to perform, as well as special performances by the UW Oshkosh Hand Bell Choir, local harp player Lisa Dorschner, a capella singing from Kurt Stein’s School of Music, and former Oshkosh West and UW Oshkosh student Sean Lynch, who has recently completed his Masters of Vocal Performance from the University of Iowa.
Doors will open at 5:30pm with a full bar and jazz piano. The concert starts at 6:30pm. Tickets will be on sale mid October at Heid Music and Manila Resto for $10.00. The three performing high schools will also have a limited number of tickets available. Tickets will be available at the door for $12.00 the night of the event. 100 percent of ticket sales will be donated to the three performing high school choir programs.
This concert is sponsored by Heid Music, Beckets, Manila Resto, and the Oshkosh Scene, with additional support from the Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau and WOCT Oshkosh. These sponsors help pay our performers, fund our promotions, and provide the venue and support staff for our concerts, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting local arts and education.
Through its first four concerts, the Oshkosh Music Artist Series has raised over $5600.00 to fund local music education programs. Heid Music has paid over $2000.00 to the local performing musicians. In summer of 2014, the Oshkosh Area School District recognized the series with an Award of Appreciation for our continued support of music education.
