Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at 1300 Main Street in Stevens Point is pleased to announce the 2014 recipients aof their Community Grants.
The Frame Mission Committee received a record number of 26 applications from non-profit organizations requesting more than $21,000. Through fund-raisers, church support and especially the Danny Mitchell Music on a Mission Concert, the Frame Mission Committee was able to donate $10,000 to 22 Portage County organizations.
The money awarded to these organizations will be used to enhance people’s skills or meet people’s basic needs.
Some examples of how these monies are used include providing healthy after-school snacks at The Boys and Girls Club, assisting Advocates for the Disabled with transportation to events, and supporting a music curriculum at the Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum for those with autism.
Funds were also allocated to support Meals on Wheels, Junior Achievement, Portage County Legal Aid Society and Teen Leadership of Portage County.
The money will also help with the basic needs of people in Portage County, such as providing toothbrushes to low-income families through Ministry Dental Clinic, crisis prescription support through Operation Bootstrap, and assisting in buying a food-stamp/EBT machine to be used at farmers’ markets through Farmshed.
Resources will also be purchased for Peer to Peer classes for those families who are living with mental illness through the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
